      The Cadbury brothers thought to pick the colour as a tribute to Queen Victoria, and has been used on their chocolate wrappers for more than 100 years.Cadbury was granted a trademark for the purple (Pantone 2685C<\/span> to be precise) to be used on certain chocolate goods, such as the iconic dairy milk. It took four years to get this for which cadbury\u2019s had applied for it back in 2004. But nestle
      challenged the ruling, arguing that the colour was not distinctive enough to receive a trademark. But luck was on
      cadbury\u2019s side and Allan James from the UK Intellectual Property Office, claimed that the colour showed enough
      \u201cdistinctive character\u201d for a trademark. He believed the colour purple had been central marketing to the brand,and used in advertising campaigns to distinguish it.
